7. Balls of Fury

Sports movies, am I right? Well, Balls of Fury takes a step back from your usual football/baseball/rugby formula by incorporating the hardcore world of professional ping-pong as the film’s central conceit. While it might sound a little bit ridiculous and contrived, when you throw in a winning performance from Christian Walken at his most cartoonishly evil as a ping-pong champion, it’s pretty hard to shake off the sense of fun that comes from watching this salute to all things thrilling.

    I’m a huge fan of ’70s Glam Rock, and “Velvet Goldmine” isn’t that great. Even if the plot/pacing issues were worked out, the film would still only attract a niche audience.

    Pretty sure the Bourne series is based off of a relatively popular series of books, thus they would have a bigger audience than the long kiss goodnight.

    Balls of Fury? Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 1. Nuff said.

      The title is “didn’t get the recognition they deserved.” A 1 would fit that criterion quite well if the film deserved a higher number.

      I’d give Balls of Fury a 3, for a few very entertaining moments in an otherwise painful film. That’s enough to say it’s underrated in my book.

    “Christian Walken?” Who is writing or editing this? And saying “done to death” twice in a one paragraph summary is doing that phrase to death.

    Wow really calling in the Knights Tale? That might of worked sooner after Dark Knight when everyone was pretending they liked Heath Ledger (even though they were the same ones crying about him being cast as the Joker)

      “That might of…” Why is it that people these days do not understand contractions? Instead of writing ‘ve (a contraction of “have”), they write “of”–which is based on what they hear, rather than actual grammar. This error is so prevalent on the internet that I fear it will become canon.

    Unfortunately, the original VHS release of “Gremlins 2″ cut out one of the funniest throwaway gags from the film (with Paul Bartel and Hulk Hogan) and replaced it with a longer and much less funny alternate sequence.

    I have no idea if the DVD is still that way; i need to check.

    The film itself is, indeed, brilliant.

    The only movie I would agree with that didn’t get the attention it deserved is Velvet Goldmine. I thought it was a well researched film that closely hit upon the subculture that Glam and Punk belonged to in early 70′s London, England. I was barely a toddler when the scene arrived, and in America. That being said, I was glad to be old enough to have experienced the New Wave sound that emerged in the late 70′s out of England.

        It most certainly was written hastily. However, overlooking the poor grammar and spelling; Maybe English isn’t their forte? This is an informed list of some notable movies and performances, that I agree with the writer, were most certainly overlooked. ; )

    I watched the Long Kiss Goodnight when it first came out. It sucked then and still does. A Knight’s Tale was awesome.

    The ACTUAL scariest horror films include the Exorcist and the Omen as the 2 scariest
    Closely followed by the Grudge and the Ring.
