It might seems like it’s got a particular place in the comedic vernacular as a synonym for a grudgingly long, kind of dull quest story, but Lawrence of Arabia is far more than that. Directed by David Lean (who also created the definitive version of Great Expectations, which is also worth seeing), Peter O’ Toole commands as a man who’s drawn into a world of conflict that he never expected. Luscious and influential, you’ll already have seen hundreds of films that reference this (such as Prometheus), so why not try the original?
