It’s difficult to sum up all the things that are good about A Quiet Place in the Country in just a few sentences, but I’ll give it a shot. First, it’s a horror film that’s actually really scary (check), features an awesome score from veteran composer Ennio Morricone (of the Dollars trilogy fame), and throws everything it’s got at a very basic haunted house plot-and wins. Franco Nero stars as a painter who’s keen to get out of the city for a few days to focus on his art, but soon figures out that the country house of his dreams is more likely that of his nightmares. The movie faded into obscurity because it didn’t garner enough attention or profit for an international release, and suffered at the hands of distributors who weren’t that interested in spreading the word of this genius slice of horror. If you can, this is one you don’t want to miss out on.
