And finally, we’ve got Paul Thomas Anderson’s forgotten masterpiece. You’ll probably remember Anderson better for creating porn-tastic Boogie Nights or Daniel-Day-Lewis-a-thon There Will Be Blood, but before all of this he was the mind behind Hard Eight. Grappling with the neo-noir genre with gusto, the film takes on a complex and intelligent plot that doesn’t take the viewer’s stupidity as a given. A grand performance from John C. Reilly steals the show, and peppered-in cameos from stars like Philip Seymour Hoffman prove equally tantalising. It might not be Anderson’s finest hour, but it’s worth seeking out if you’re a fan of his later work- or if you’re a fan of Samuel L. Jackson being really damn cool. And who wouldn’t want to get behind that? So, you’ve browsed our list of must-see movies (and hopefully added a few to your parchment of “To Watch”). But everyone has their very own treasures- movies that they love that no-one else seems to have heard of. What are your hidden gems? What’s the one film you would tell the world to see if you could?
