2. The Ring
Believe it or not, I’m talking about the American remake here- although that’s borderline blasphemous and will send hundreds of horror fans chasing me with various appropriate implements, I strongly believe that the remake is better-and genuinely scary too. Naomi Watts puts in a solid central performance, and the direction and cinematography are superb- landing just on the right side of stylised and pulling off haunting images that will really stick with you. If you can get over the nonsense of the actual premise, this is a wildly absorbing piece of horror gold.
