Top 10 Terrifying Movies of All Time

7. Poltergeist

Poltergeist is a film that defined my view of fear. It terrified me during repeated surreptitious viewings as a young child, and to this day clown dolls still make me want to run away screaming in terror. Spielberg at his torturous finest, there’s not a moment in this film that’s wasted- from the first hints at something being off to scenes where the cast wade through corpses, Poltergeist still maintains it’s power to terrify many years later.

Why would you put Blair Witch Project on this list? Stupid, boring and not at all scary. My 6 year old daughter fell asleep during the movie at the theater. That should say a lot

    • Christy Renee’ Younce Rach

Seriously, I could run around in the mountains at night with a video camera and make something better than The Blair Witch Project. I live in TN, all I’d need to do is get in the car, drive a few hours, cry a little bit, run around aimlessly. video tape Adams (that city in and of itself just has a creepy vibe), then go to the cave (Bell Witch) and tape some more. Yeah, if people thought Blair Witch was scary, hell, I’d have a masterpiece!

      • Jason Hubsky

        What a tool….

      • InThePanhandle

Better get to it then .

    • Max X

1st off, I don’t believe that someone would be that shitty of a parent, where they actually thought it was a good idea to bring their 6yr old kid to that kind of movie! Regardless of how shitty the movie was.

You should get the “parent of the year” award! ::rolls eyes::

    • Jason Hubsky

6 years old huh? Wow mother of the year here….

    • PM2901

Riight?!!! It got all of this hype and I went with my bucket of popcorn and thought I was being punked! What an UNscary movie. I still wish I could get my money back. I’ve seen scarier Disney flicks!

      • Gregory

The penguins in Mary Poppins were scarier than anything in Blair Witch! And speaking of taking kids to Blair Witch, why not? Should have been rated G, nothing happens anyway.

    • irving adams

Vyxinn you are 10000 percent correct about that pathetic piece of ….it was not scary at all. It was without doubt the sorriest movie I have ever seen in my life.

  • Ryan

Poltergeist still scares the piss out of me

  • notbobrob

    What about The Exorcist?

    • Barancy Peloma

glad it wasn’t listed. never found it scary.

I saw the Exorcist alone when I was 11. 39 years later, I should still be in therapy, it scared the p outta me.

      • Mark Sapir

The Exorcist was originally rated X, a movie on how a child got into the theater might be a horror show in itself.

Good call putting Shutter (the original) on here.

  • Tony

Blair Witch? No. This list is lame.

Henry is the only thing correct. Evil Dead is a great movie, but not scary.

  • Capertree

The unlisted “Exorcist” is definitely number one. As for the ones listed, I guess you could make a case for some of them if you equate “disturbing” (Henry) or irritating (Blair Witch Project’s hour and a half of people screaming obscenities at each other) with being scary. But “Theatre of Blood?” Great, fun movie but not scary by a long-shot.

  • ME

PLANET OF THE APES , ORIGINAL SCARED ME WHEN I WAS 6

  • Thunder_Kiss_1965

Running around aimlessly in the dark blowing snot bubbles is not terrifying. How many times can you cross the same creek before you realise those things only go in two directions.

How about John Carpenter’s The Thing

    • Jason Hubsky

It’s about as scary as critters…

  • Vas

I have seen all 10 movies and of all 10 none of them are terrifying at all. American Mary is an awesome movie in my opinion. Also shutter is a good movie as long as you watch the orginal and not the american BS remake.

  • badassbarada

If you don’t know what Poltergeist is, then you must be either 15 or not a fan of horror. One of Spielberg’s most acclaimed movies.

I have seen almost everything on this list, and while entertaining, few would be really scary. And, really, Evil Dead is so incredibly over rated.

    • luna1

      So are you

  • George Ferguson

Poltergeist, was great, but, what about Jaws, The Amityville Horror, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974), A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984), The Shining, The Thing (1982), Prince of Darkness, The Entity and Hellraiser?

    • Joel Burgeson

I agree, The Thing and The Shining are two of the best!

    • Christy Renee’ Younce Rach

Seriously, you just named three great classics- The Original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and seriously, there is NOTHING like The Shining. That movie is seriously THE best movie I’ve ever seen.

      • anthony rowland

people forget the first nightmare on elm street because of how campy the series became. freddy was DARK in the first one.

    • Curtis Lusk

Better choices than most of the author’s

    • George Sedares

You are pretty much on target. There is the whole genre of Frankenstein and Dracula, while corny- still legitimate scary films. Also how about The Beast with 5 Fingers, (Peter Lorie) ? This one is back into the late forty’s !

    • TrickleUpPolitics

I agree with you on The Amityville Horror (the original one), The Shining and The Thing. Amityville Horror was so good it’s been over and over again. The Shining has been remade but no one can top Nicholson’s performance (his Here’s Johnny with that madman stare is really scary), and The Thing was terrifying because we couldn’t trust that anyone left was human. The sight of that dog being taken over by the thing is so horrible I’ve never been able to watch it again.

  • http://www.firstinternetpsychic.com David Bercutt

For the second time today, if you were stoned out of your mind, and it was mid seventies, and you headed into a big Los Angeles theatre with a fancy sound system to see the Original Alien, never having seen the monster and having no expectation of seeing something that hideous, this is the most terrifying film of all time.

    • Mary Gates

You have it spot on about Alien!! I lay awake all night watching first the closet, then the window, then the closet…you get the picture. It is all relative, though. The Exorcist did nothing for me (scare-wise) but friends who thought The Exorcist terrifying found Alien to be a big yawn. It depends on what you believe is possible, I guess.

      • PM2901

Both “The Exorcist” AND “Alien” were terrifying BRILLIANT movies!

        • irving adams

Mary the Exorcist in my opinion is the scariest movie ever made bar none for it was the only scary movie that actually caused a death upon viewing it. Most people probably do not know that an elderly gentleman upon seeing it actually suffered a cardiac arrest and expired.

          • PM2901

I think he was getting a hand job during “The Exorcist.”

          • irving adams

Maybe, though I never heard such. He was an elderly man probably with a bad heart. He shouldn’t even have viewed it knowing his condition.

    • irving adams

David I also agree totally with you. In my opinion alien to this day is not only the scariest scify flick ever made but also the best scify movie ever made.

  • keithsmustache

The Exorcist is the scariest movie of all time. End of debate.

    • Curtis Lusk

No it’s not it’s almost as boring as Blair witch it’s just gross with the vomiting and peeing but not scary, when we were kids we snuck in to see it because we heard it was scary we weren’t scared at all

    • Theresa Bates

I don’t know about the movie, but the BOOK was one which left you really looking around the room, touching everything in sight to make sure you were back to a mundane reality. “Book, table, chair, lights on, nothing creepy here. Thank the Heavens!” Usually what makes a movie horrifying is the conditions surrounding the characters — in a situation where they are in danger and have no way to escape. The Thing and The Shining both had people who were in danger, one an unknown source, and the other a husband and father slowly descending into the depths of madness. In both, the isolation and surrounding weather conditions heightened the terror. Some movies are not so much scary as simply gory and gross. I guess it all depends on what terrifies you.

      • TrickleUpPolitics

The book Salem’s Lot scared me-I was reading it late at night and was creeped out I had the overhead light on to make sure the room was as brightly lit as possible. The movie was stupid.

    • luna1

Only if you are a puss

  • georgesedares

How about The Beast with Five Fingers, The Thing, (original), Alien, and a sleeper; Ghost Busters, once you get past the comedy aspects- this is a scary movie. Psycho belongs on your list of poor representations and please consider Prom Night ll ……

    • Max X

Psycho belongs on your list of poor representations???

      huh….please explain this!

  • Manny

Hello!! What about The Shining or The Exorcist?? Purely DUMB

  • Wayne Baker

No Exorcist? Are you people retarded? Evil Dead is a comic book. Even Jaws was scarier than 3/4 of your crappy list! Did someone get paid to write this? Whoever did needs to be washing cars or dishes, not acting like a movie reviewer.

  • Daniel Joseph

Junk list, Blair witch is a joke, I couldn’t wait to see it but was damn disappointed

  • Ishmael Lite

What, no Dead of Night?: best of the “animated ventriloquist’s dummy” lot. “Doctor, I wish you hadn’t broken your glasses!”

  • DaveDaRave

American Mary was not scary and was not a good movie at all.

  • Annie Landry

I think people really enjoy hating on others. All of those movies are good in their own way. Although I haven’t found a horror movie that could scare me since I was 12, I still appreciate the movies because they are witty and I’ve been a fan of Horror for as long as I can remember. How scary do you want a movie to be? The only reason I don’t get scared anymore is because my brain dismisses it as ever being possible and I think too logically. Which is pretty shitty if you ask me.. But these are all classic horror films which I enjoyed very much. You negative people are just being stuck up and difficult for absolutely no reason. Everybody thinks differently and everybody likes different things. No need for hatred. It’s immature.

    • Max X

Did you ever see Showgirls? Absolutely terrifying! Watch it….it’ll scare the crap outta you, guaranteed!

      • PM2901

        HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHA!!!!!

      • Gregory

I LOVE Showgirls, especially the swimming pool scene where the shark attacks what’s her name… but you never even see the shark.

      • http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Mufti_of_Jerusalem Grand Mufti of Jerusalem

“Showgirls” is indeed a terrifying film: Nomi pushing Cristal down the stairs, the ball bearings on the floor of the stage, Nomi’s thigh-high high-heeled boots that she uses to kick the shit out of the rapist, the rape scene, Kyle McLachlan’s head, the symbolic use of “319″, lipstick on nipples, the way Nomi pronounces “Versace” (“Vurr-Sase”) . . . this one will stay with you forever. The lap dancing sequences are definitely not for the faint of heart.

  • Travis

Every movie on here’s a joke, and Spielberg didn’t even direct Poltergeist you idiots

    • Scott Herdliska

Spielberg pretty much did direct Poltergeist, He took over when Tobe Hooper mishandled a lot of it. Was rumored that he had a bit of a drug problem at the time.
Speilberg was making ET at the time and the academy would not allow him to direct both simultaneously. That he “secretly” helmed Poltergeist got him into a little trouble (legally and with the academy)

      http://www.poltergeist.poltergeistiii.com/really.html

    • Curtis Lusk

Psycho is a classic horror movie with every thing that has come since I can see people being jaded about it

      • irving adams

Psycho is without a doubt a true classic. It is a real stand alone in the horror movie genre. This is another legendary horror movie that impacted the human psyche.it had an indelible affect on women all across America for it had them afraid to take showers. Alfred Hitchcock will forever be the all time Master of Suspense. Nobody did it better.

  • Stephen Lawrence

To a generation known for Justin Bieber, DubStep, and Bronies this list is an great introduction to terrifying movies. I make that assumption, as I figure this list would contain movies that 14-year-olds might be scared by, but also, because I suspect that was the age of its author.
What thought/research went into this list—if any?
Not only would no adult/horror-fan/geriatric heart patient with a weak bladder find these the most terrifying movies, they would wonder why the author simply googled “horror movies” and included the first ten titles they came across.
Not bad movies by any means, but terrible writing.

  • Scott Herdliska

    Terrible list:
    Alien
    The Shining
    The Exorcist
    Carrie
    The Ring
    Halloween
    The Descent
    Session 9
    The Thing
    Hellraiser
    TCM
    House of 1000 Corpses
    Devil’s Rejects

Audition (maybe the most terrifying movie ever)
    countless others

Poltergeist is a great movie too, and the Evil Dead is not a long shot
If you’re going to go with Henry (very disturbing) you might as well add A Serbian Film and Irreversible if only for the disturbing factor. Make them Die Slowly and Cannibal Holocaust as well.

Martyrs is another weird disturbing one I just thought of, Human Caterpillar as well, Hostel, Cabin Fever, etc etc.

I do like Pontypool and Psycho. I just think that none of your choices are top 10 scary.

    • goddess8281

      Audition was disturbing.

    • Max X

Pontypool was just fuckin weird! And Im gonna have to say no to Cannibal Holocaust. That is just a gorefest…and I don’t necessarily think gorefests count as horror. Oh and you were close but it’s The Human CENTIPEDE. I have yet to see both A Serbian Film and Make them Die Slowly, so I can’t really comment on those. I have seen Martyrs, it was interesting and disturbing. I’ve also seen Irreversible. A movie that starts at the end and ends at the beginning is kinda hacky though. And to be honest, I don’t really count it as a horror film.

One film you listed that I absolutely love is Session 9! Great setting, interesting premise, great acting as well, with some nice lil twists. That movie creeps me out every time I watch it! It is without a doubt one of the most under-rated horror films ever made. I’d also like to add Night of The Living Dead.

      • http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Mufti_of_Jerusalem Grand Mufti of Jerusalem

“A Serbian Film” should be retitled “A Sick Fuck”. Not one redeeming value to the film.

    • Lorayne Gothard

I was with you all the way till you said House of 1000 Corpses and Devils Rejects which were horrible in my opinion.. The others are right on. By the way if you are a real horror fan you will like Event Horizon!!

      • Polish Prince

Event Horizon is a great choice

    • luna1

      WISHMASTER 1 AND 2

  • Marklemagne

Thanks for including Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer. Creepy, but realistic in an odd way.

  • DonovanT

Purely an opinion, but I thought The Strangers was terrifying.

    • goddess8281

The Strangers was great. And the extended ending…aw man. So fucked up.

    • willowdiamond

The Strangers is basically the only movie I consider scary/I can see why people would think it’s scary. I’ve seen a LOT of horror and seriously everything else is really lame.

      • Jason Hubsky

        It’s not scary at all….

    • PM2901

      OMG, Yes!!!

  • Observer

The Exorcist, Thing from Another Planet (John Carpenter’s), Alien, Scanners, The Shining, Invasion of the Body Snatchers (original and first remake), The Hitcher (original), ………

  • Lmaddoxx

Mario Bava’s Black Sunday. Barbara Steele scared me as a kid and has scared me every time I have watched this film as an adult!!!

  • Leon

Who fucking chooses these films. Cause I agree with none of them.

  • Get Fuzzy

Latex and jump shots don’t make a movie scary unless there’s suspense to make them effective. Exorcist (as so many on this list know) is probably the best. For me, Silence of the lambs comes a close second.

  • Harriet Burgess

The Black Witch Project terrified me when I was younger, still not brave enough to watch it again!

  • jc20s

First on the list: Blair Witch Project…. *closes browser*

    • Max X

      lol

      • Gregory

BWP may have had the best marketing campaign ever, but it was a ridiculous movie.

  • Barancy Peloma

henry: Potrait of a Serial Killer has some seriously funny scenes in it though. like the time they take down the fat tv repairman or they shoot the helpful motorist- i was laughing.

  • Thom1979

Where are really scary movies like “Prince of darkness” “Ring” “Suspiria” “Candyman” “Shining” etc..? Blair witch is scary ? Are you serious ?

  • goddess8281

How is Hellraiser not on this list? Those movies scare me shitless.

  • Monique

The Shining, The Exorcist, Carrie, and The Changeling (1980 version) were the sleep-with-the-lights-on scariest movies for me.

    • RichardT

Exorcist not scary at all. The Shining yes. Stepnen King, generally pretty good. Lawn Mower Man, Pet Cemetary. The Omen was good. Try The Grudge or it’s Japanese version, Ju-on. They’re worth a few good chills.

  • Dakota Barry

More like the 10 worst, cheap effects movies ever made

  • RichardT

Excorcist wasn’t scarey. Try “The Grudge” or it’s Japanese original, “Ju-on”. Very scary. I don’t easily get chills up the spine but got a few on this one.

    • Theresa Bates

I didn’t go see The Exorcist; the book WAS pretty terrifying. BUT I have seen both The Grudge and Ju-on. I would have to agree with your assessment, RichardT

      • RichardT

Yeah, and I always found the older Chucky movies scary. Maybe a childhood fear kind of thing. Small things running at you are pretty scary anyway.

        • PM2901

“Trilogy of Terror” with Karen Black

  • TootUnCommon

The Blair Witch Project wasn’t scary, it was ANNOYING. It only left me bored, nauseated & wanting my money back!

    • Jason Hubsky

      Well congrats…

  • TootUnCommon

    V/H/S was a jumbled mess.

    • Max X

I fucking hate “found footage” home movies. They are complete garbage and should not be made anymore.

  • Sandra Lee Weller-Grayson

What about the “Killer Tomatoes”, “Killer Clowns from Outer Space.” Or even the “Killer Rabbits!” :)

  • Peter Johnson

I like how you’re really ignorant. It makes me feel better about myself. I will admit, I was suprised by the Vincent Price movie and Shutter, but honestly…just because you haven’t heard of it, doesn’t mean it isn’t scary. I feel like every modern horror buff and there mum has heard of American Mary or VHS. If you haven’t heard of poltergeist, then you might not be human…or just not from America

  • Richard

Where these the only 10 horror movies you’ve ever seen or something? Courage the cowardly dog is scarier than most movies on this list, you need movies like Suspiria or Jacob’s Ladder.

  • Punk Ass

    Three things:
    1. It may be cliche at this point, but it is for good reason: The Exorcist!
    2. For modern horror, you chose V/H/S over the much scarier Insidious.
    3. I don’t care what the general opinion is, Evil Dead was just plain f**kin’ stupid!

    • PM2901

“Evil Dead”? Really?!! Horrible, unscary movie!

  • Kurt Smith

I hope The Birds, Alien, Exorcist, and The Shining got honorable mentions.

  • Bob Dickinson

    Phantasm.

  • SimpleShyt

The Grudge 2 creepy as hell.. The Grudge and The Grudge 3 friggin lame but number 2 got me. Its a movie to watch in a quiet dark room.

  • johnnie

I think Nosferatu is still one of the creepiest movies ever…

  • Curtis Lusk

Who is this clown most of these movies aren’t scary and are actually annoying, boring or annoyingly boring. Blair witch wasn’t even mildly scary and evil dead was more funny than scary. The only true scary film listed here was psycho

  • rylan

*cough* cough* THE RING AND THE RING 2 *cough *cough*

  • Terry Lane

Seriously? Blair Witch? And yes I’ve seen it. I didn’t even bother looking at the rest of the list after they posted that one.

  • Steven Dorsey

Number 2: That’s not an image of shutter but Deadgirl. :

  • Polish Prince

    A fairly lame list.

What about “The Ring”? One of the creepiest and scariest movies I ever saw.

Also, check out John Carpenter’s “In the Mouth of Madness”, or Karen Black in “Trilogy of Terror” with the Zuni doll.

All three will make your hair stand up on end.

  • WatchingFromOverThere

The Blair Witch Project? I saw it, and it was bunch of people wandering in the woods and saying “Fuck you” a lot. Yawn. I enjoyed “Pontypool,” and I would like to put in a word for the *original* (not the 1990s remake) of “The Haunting.” I saw it on TV when I was in high school, and it gave me the creeps.

  • Lisa Annmarie

The problem with lists like this is that they are always subjective. The target in the comments seems to be Blair Witch. Which I agree was NOT scary, but that’s my opinion. Personally I found IT terrifying to the point that I’ve never been able to watch the entire thing, but I have a crippling fear of clowns. While watching Sinister, my 15 yr old daughter wouldn’t take her blanket off her head, while my 11 yr old son thought it was the greatest movie ever made. Subjective.

    • ihatediscus2

IT………….put me off clowns forever too………….

      • Theresa Bates

IT was a television miniseries, not a movie.

        • luna1

          Dumb, all the same

  • http://batman-news.com Chris Larosa

The Shining is the best horror movie of all time, no doubt. Can’t believe it wasn’t mentioned. Much more current – Dead Silence totally scared the shit out of me, but I was also alone, in the dark, and hyped up on Ding Dongs. lol

  • chetnapier

Blair Witch really you mean Morons Lost in the Park.

  • Nick Angiulo

While there are so many others that are worthy, it’s a good list. I especially commend the inclusion of V/H/S/ which is one of the most creepy and overall disturbing movies, in an oddly good way, that I have seen in recent years.

  • Kelvin Reid

How about “” The Last Broadcast “? Actually made before” Blair Witch”. . Is better then Blair witch. And reportedly only cost $900.

  • Nicolas Hunt

Grave encounters. Only the first one though

  • Al Dante

For you younger people try ;the house of Wax, the Pit and the Pendulum, and Pre mature burial. Get some popcorn and turn the lights off.

  • Mike

Without a doubt the worst list in the history of the universe, absolutely pathetic!

  • this2shallpass

    Martyrs
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1029234/?ref_=nv_sr_1

Once you see it, you will ALWAYS remember it.

  • search9286

If you saw “Night of the Living Dead” when it first came out, it should be high on your list. It’s still a great movie, just not as scary as it was back then.

  • search9286

    Where was the “Saw” franchise?

  • search9286

Ever seen those Government movies they show the troops about VD? THAT”S some scary shit

  • Bianca

This is just my opinion, but I really don’t understand how people find Poltergeist, The Shining, The Exorcist, Paranormal Activity, The Grudge, The Ring, Audition, and Salo scary. The Shining was completely boring and it gave me a headache. I laughed while watching The Exorcist. Paranormal Activity made me fall asleep and had only one jumps scare. I don’t want to describe the rest since I think I’ve made my point. Not that I think that The Blair Witch Project is scary or good, but has anyone ever seen Where the Dead Go to Die? It makes The Blair Witch Project look like the greatest movie ever. A movie I would recommend is A Serbian Film. It’s not exactly scary, but it definitely is disturbing. I am not trying to insult anyone’s opinion just so anyone knows.

    • http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Mufti_of_Jerusalem Grand Mufti of Jerusalem

You would recommend “A Serbian Film?” That is the biggest piece of shit ever made out of celluloid, and I mean that with all apologies to pieces of shit. That fucked up in the head movie has no redeeming value at all, it’s like a bunch of demented 14 year old boys all got together to decide what would be the most sick and disgusting thing they could make into a movie. Hence, “A Serbian Film”, a movie that will forever link Serbia as “Sickfuckistan.”

  • Narc San Diego

“Nurse” starring Paz De La huerta. She is a super sexy murderous health care taker??

    • http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Mufti_of_Jerusalem Grand Mufti of Jerusalem

Paz de la Huerta’s tiny eyes scare the shit out of me! She looks like she got hit in the face twice with a BB gun. Yikes!!

Psycho, YES. The rest. . .NO!! Total BS! How about “Hostel”?! Scary as hell!!

  • PM2901

    “The Descent”

  • PM2901

The Child Catcher from “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” is scarier than “The Blair Witch Project.” I SMELL CHILDREN. . .I’m still shaking in my boots!

  • PM2901

    “Dressed to Kill”

  • alebrije girl

Ok, I may have been only 15 or so when I saw these two, but I’ve never forgotten them, nor watched them again. 1. Let’s Scare Jessica To Death 2. The Brood
Pretty much B movies, but scary as hell.

  • doc8998

Not quite sure, like others, how Alien doesn’t make this cut. (Then again, maybe I’m biased- it and Aliens are my two favorite movies of all time.)
Also unsure of how Martyrs doesn’t pop up… I’m fairly desensitized to horror, having grown up on it, and that movie didn’t necessarily scare me, but it grated on my nerves (in a good way,) unlike anything I can remember in a long time.

  • Sean Thornton

Why do those hands always look wrong in Poltergeist?

  • Gregory

The Blair Witch Project was about as scary as “Mary Poppins” imo. And one of the scariest movies ever was that third Pirates of the Caribean movie during which I was terrified it would never, ever, end.

  • Dust Bowler

I fell asleep during the Blair Witch project. In the movie theatre.

  • SonicScrewDriver

“Evil Dead” was the stupidest movie ever! Not even scary, just ridiculous special effects over and over and over… Just a dumb, pointless movie!

  • Thomas McDowell

I love this list because it mentions several lesser know films that I haven’t seen. The author goes with what he actually likes rather than generating the same list of box office smash hits that we’ve seen on tons of websites. He also picks a few films that are subtle and prey upon your imagination. The original 1963 release of The Haunting is a great example and one of my all-time favorites. I also liked several moments in Candyman, especially the parking deck scene.

I was so very disappointed in Pontypool (or whatever its called)

I’ve been a Horror movie buff for nearly 50 years. The real question is, What movie does it take to really scare you ? you know the one….keep looking behind you even though you know nobody else is there, or the one that makes the hairs on the back of your head to stand at attention. How about the one that makes you insist that at least one light, in view, remains in the on position for the rest of the evening. My personal favorite is the one movie that leaves me to take evasive action afterwards by turning on ESPN’s Sportscenter or The Andy Griffin Show to detox myself from the horror I just witnessed.

  • Barry

The remake of the Evil Dead was pretty disturbing.

  • SamiHami

Blair Witch was NOT terrifying. It was not even kinda scary.

  • LibertyToad

The Blair Witch Project was boring and not at all scary.

  • Fred Doe

Any list like this that has “The Blair Witch Project” on it, can’t be taken seriously.

  • Mr. Hand

Blair Witch Project LOL. Worst movie I’ve ever seen in my life.

  • Jeff Fitzgerald

Takashi Miike’s profoundly disturbing ‘Audition.’ Nuff said.

  • OldUncleDave

The Japanese horror film Audition is scarier than all of those except for Henry.

American Mary isn’t a horror film…it’s a gory thriller and is NEVER scary; it’s not intended to be. Also, Pontypool (excellent as it is), is truly more of a stage-like drama and not truly horror. It has one or two horrific moments but isn’t scary. This is an odd list, indeed.

  • TrickleUpPolitics

    The Exorcist and Alien.

  • TrickleUpPolitics

You want scary, you should watch Event Horizon. It’s gory, sci-fi and scary as hel*.

  • Alex

The Conjuring was the first horror film in a good few years to make me jump out of my seat! Insidious would be right behind it!!! That’s talking modern film. As far as the classics go, The Exorcist STILL gives me the creeps, to date!!!

  • watson

this is new Check Full Story

  • Sharen Nyberg

The Exorcist and The Shining should be on this list. Pontypool and V/H/S were scary but not as scary.

  • FREEZ

V/H/S is right on. Two movies that recently actually got me were Sinister, and REC 2
